Bison Gear & Engineering
Situation
Bison Gear & Engineering is a manufacturing firm based in St. Charles, Illinois. They came to Distant Horizon with a desire to redesign their informational web site to better serve the increasingly diverse customer base for their gearmotor product line.
Challenge
Although the vast majority of Bison’s business is done with original equipment manufacturers that purchase large quantities of identical motors, Bison recognized that many of these relationships begin with small orders from engineers and product designers that wish to evaluate Bison products before specifying them into their products. Since pricing is also a big factor in this process, it would be necessary for these new customers to be able to start the process of estimating how much their motors would cost if they committed to placing larger orders. This created a situation in which an e-commerce purchase and an online quotation request could happen separately or together depending on the circumstances.
Solution
We began with a clean, vibrant design concept. Our application development staff then created a piggy-back Quote/Cart that allowed any visitor to the site to request a quote, create an online order or both simultaneously at their convenience. We then setup a Pay Per Click campaign with Overture and Google Adwords to maximize the impact of the new web site. In order to facilitate continued communication with Bison’s customers and prospective customers, a broadcast e-mail system was integrated into the web site’s admin system.
Subsequently, Bison has utilized Distant Horizon to create a corporate extranet and a web site for their non-profit foundation www.bisoncares.com.
Results
On November 15, 2006, Bison was the #1 listing for the word “gearmotor” on both Google.com and MSN.com search engines. The e-commerce order volume surpassed client expectations and Bison has retained Distant Horizon to make continual enhancements to their web strategy.
