Frankfort Chamber of Commerce
Situation
In 1999 the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce in Frankfort, Illinois was looking to maximize the use of the technology for communicating with chamber members and the community.
Challenge
Being a non-profit organization, ideas had to be implemented over a period of time so that the web could remain a reasonable line-item in the chamber’s budget. Furthermore, the director of the chamber was accustomed to making day-to-day changes with Microsoft Front Page.
Solution
Distant Horizon designed the first site in 1999 and for four years the chamber staff successfully maintained the site on a day-to-day basis. In 2003, Distant Horizon redesigned the site using photographs taken by Distant Horizon’s staff photographer throughout the Village of Frankfort.
Distant Horizon programmers enhanced several areas of the site, including a membership database and in 2006 the Distant Horizon web-based Calendar system was added. Other content on the site is still maintainable with Microsoft Front Page.
Results
The Frankfort Chamber web site is a benchmark for other Chicagoland chambers of commerce. Despite the Village’s modest size, the chamber’s famous annual Fall Festival and forward thinking use of technology has made it one of the most respected chambers in the Chicagoland area. The Frankfort Chamber asked Distant Horizon to provide Wi-Fi internet access for the Chamber’s 2007 business expo, further underlining this group’s commitment to using technology to help its members.
