Helken Equipment
Situation
Helken Equipment is a small company with a very specialized expertise. They buy hammermill pulverizers from companies that no longer need them, refurbish them to like-new condition, and resell them. Although their customer base was solid, Helken did not have a website and was looking to acquire new customers.
Challenge
Helken needed a site that helped track inventory and displayed it in an informative yet understandable structure. With such a powerful site, the only challenge left was to ensure that the marketplace could easily find Helken Equipment. Using highly targeted keywords in a comprehensive bid-for-placement program, Helken was able to achieve top rankings in Yahoo, MSN, Google and AOL.
Solution
To begin, we started with a clean design and a powerful database-driven structure and worked with the client to scan photographs of his existing inventory and add their specifications to the database.
As a site visitor drills down through the categories and product inventory, they end up on a product page that offers several photos, full specifications and a "smart" inquiry form which tells Helken staff exactly where a visitor was on the site when they decided to inquire. Then, they can pull up the file for that exact item before returning the call or e-mail.
Results
Distant Horizon developed a password protected maintenance interface by which the client can fully control inventory and categorization on the site from any web browser. Using a digital camera, the client takes digital photographs of all equipment which can be posted to the web site through the same maintenance system.
