Rochford Supply

Situation

Rochford Supply already had an e-commerce web site when we found them, but it was only generating a few orders per month. Our research and past experience told us that this site should be selling much more.

Challenge

Rochford’s site had one really serious transactional barrier to “the sale” and that was that it required a log-in before you could fully add an item to your shopping cart. Photography was also poor, and there was no real merchandising on the site to describe and market the products adequately. There was also no search engine strategy in place.

Solution

Distant Horizon completed a full redesign and redevelopment of rochfordsupply.com. In addition to implementing the S3 e-commerce modules requested by the client, DH assisted Rochford in setting up an in-house digital photo studio so that improved product photographs could be inexpensively obtained for their products. A new, fresh design was produced to keep over 2,000 products organized and easy to navigate.

Results

With the new web site, Rochford Supply’s gross online revenues surpassed development costs in just 78 days. In the first three months the new site was live, the order volume increased an average of 4,920% (fifty times the average monthly sales of their prior e-commerce web site). This was the average, the third month was actually 8,560%. Now, with a successful new revenue channel for their business, the Rochford Supply staff is focusing on adding more products, streamlining fulfillment and more focused promotion.
